Five Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah ( invites applicants for 5 tenure-track positions with a Fall 2016 start date. Candidates with interest and expertise in the areas of solid mechanics (2 positions), design and/or manufacturing (1 position), thermal sciences, fluid mechanics or energy systems (1 position), and robotics (1 position) are encouraged to apply.

For the two solid mechanics positions, candidates with research interests and expertise in computational, theoretical, and/or experimental solid mechanics are encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: constitutive modeling, composites, biomechanics, material characterization, high strain-rate mechanics, non-destructive characterization, fluid-solid interactions, aeroelasticity, inverse problems in mechanics, and uncertainty characterization in mechanics.

Applicants are expected to have earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates should be qualified to teach courses in the core curriculum of a mechanical engineering program, including existing courses and/or developing new courses that support their graduate program. Candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program that complements existing research programs. Collaborations in the Department, College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and elsewhere across campus are highly encouraged.
