National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Boulder, Colorado

Postdoctoral Position in Mechanical Design/Materials Science & Engineering at Lehigh University

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. The candidate will be mentored by Prof. Siddha Pimputkar and will perform work within his Materials for Advance Technologies & Sustainability (MATS) Group. The position is looking to be filled immediately.

Position Details:

A successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Prof. Siddha Pimputkar and collaborators on developing a new high-pressure spatial chemical vapor deposition tool (HPS-CVD). This position will focus on analyzing and improving upon the current mechanical design and computational fluid dynamic model of this new equipment using COMSOL/SOLIDWORKS. This tool is being developed as part of an awarded NSF MRI Grant. The candidate’s contribution will aid in developing a successful prototype that will be manufactured and used to grow thin films of nitrides. The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage with the experimental team to gain exposure to the needs and use-cases of this tool and our industrial partner. Furthermore, candidates will have the opportunity to be exposed to ongoing research in the MATS group related to the single crystal growth and extended research happening in the Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics as part of the Institute of Functional Materials and Devices at Lehigh.

Minimum qualifications:

1. Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, or related engineering field

2. Strong background in computational fluid dynamic modeling of systems

3. Experience in using COMSOL and SOLIDWORKS

4. Strong written and oral communication skills

The position is for one year, with a possible extension depending on funding and performance. This position is open until a suitable candidate is identified. The ideal candidate would be able to start immediately, though a negotiated start date within Q1 2022 is also possible.

Application:

Questions regarding this position and applications materials should be directed to Prof. Siddha Pimputkar (siddha@lehigh.edu). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Tenure-Track Position in Solid Mechanics, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Lehigh University

Description of Position: The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Lehigh University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in solid mechanics.

Multidisciplinary research programs are an important priority at Lehigh University, and include strong interactions with government agencies, industry, and existing interdisciplinary research institutes (IRIs) on campus. The ideal candidate’s research area must be synergistic with research thrusts in the Lehigh Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (I-FMD) and/or research thrusts in the Lehigh Institute for Cyber-Physical Infrastructure and Energy (I-CPIE). The candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous research program consistent with Lehigh’s reputation as prominent research and educational institution, as well as maintain a strong commitment to teaching graduate and undergraduate students in an inclusive learning environment. Department faculty members maintain outstanding international reputations in a variety of areas, including controls and robotics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermo-heat transfer, biomechanics, and mathematical methods. Annual research expenditures for our faculty currently exceed $5.6 million. Several of our early-career faculty have won one or more young investigator awards from NSF, ARO, AFOSR, and ONR. In addition, our faculty have received numerous awards in recognition of their accomplishments from professional societies (ASME, AIAA, APS) and several federal agencies.
